Surprise! You’ve found an old Visa gift card in the back of your wallet, which is basically like getting free money, right? Well, before you celebrate too soon, let’s check the balance on that card to see if it’s still got some dough on it. We’ll show you how to check quickly and easily online or over the phone.
Quick Guide for Checking Your Visa Gift Card Balance
Check the back of the Visa gift card for a URL or toll-free number for the company that issued it. Visit the URL or call the number and input the card’s 16-digit number, expiration date, and 3-digit CVV2 code to find its remaining balance.

Find and visit the URL provided on the back of the gift card. A variety of different companies issue Visa gift cards, and each company often supplies their own tools for verifying the card’s balance. Turn your card over and check the bottom-right corner for a URL that you may visit to check your balance. Card issuers include:[1]
- Commerce Bank
- Giftcards.com
- Gift Card Mall
- Visa Vanilla
- Navy Federal
- Walmart
- Some issuers also have a mobile app you can manage your Visa gift card with, like MyVanilla (Visa Vanilla).
2
Enter the card number, expiration date, and CVV2 code. Browse the site menus for an option like “Check Gift Card Balance” or “Transactions.” In the indicated fields, enter your Visa gift card number (the 16-digit code), then enter the expiration date and 3-digit CVV2 code, all of which are often found on the back of the card.[2]

Submit the info and view your balance. When you've entered all the numbers correctly, select “Submit." You will then be redirected to a screen that shows your gift card’s balance as well as any recent transactions.[3]
- If there is an error, go back and carefully reenter the numbers. It's possible you entered something wrong. If you still can't check your balance, call the toll-free number on the back of your card.

Call the toll-free number on the back of your card. On the back of your card, there’s a toll-free number you may call for support—likely in the bottom right corner and beginning with “1-800.” Call this number to check your balance.
- If you can't find a toll-free number on your card, or it isn’t working, call (866) 511-GIFT, which is Visa’s dedicated gift card help line.
2
Answer the questions asked to check your balance. When you call the number, follow any prompts you're given. You will likely have to enter your gift card number, expiration date, and the 3-digit CVV2 code to get your gift card balance.[4] These are most often found on the back of the card.

Section 3 of 3:
Can you check your balance from your digital wallet?

Check the physical card or its receipt for the card number to find the balance. If you’ve added a gift card to your smartphone’s digital wallet, you often can't view or edit the full card information for security purposes. So, keep the physical card somewhere safe and hang on to a copy of the receipt for it (physical or digital), which often includes the card information. You’ll still need the card number, expiration date, and CVV2 code to find its balance.
- If the gift card was sent to you digitally, follow the activation and registration link provided in the gift email to check the balance on the same site you used to activate it.

You can't reload it. It should say "not refillable" somewhere on the card.

Can I return an item I purchased with a gift card?
Mystery899
Community Answer
Yes, of course. Your right to return an item is exactly the same regardless of whether you bought it with a gift card, a payment card, or a combination of the two. Do keep hold of your gift card until you are sure that you are happy with your order.
